The Effect of Group Art Therapy Based on Positive Psychology on Coping Strategies, Social Support and Psychological Well-being of Mothers with Disabled Children

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of group art therapy based on positive psychology on coping strategies, social support and psychological well-being in mothers with disabled children. Twenty mothers among 450 mothers with disabled children under the age of 18, living in the G City were selected. They were divided into 2 groups, 10 mothers each group. The experimental group underwent art therapy based on positive psychology for 90~120 minutes each session, total of 10 sessions, while the controll group was not subjected to any type of therapy. The effect was assessed through coping strategies index, social support index, psychological well-being index and also a repeated measure 2-way ANOVA was used for examine the effect. The results are as follows: In coping strategies, problem-focused coping was significantly increased in the experimental group compared to the control group. The social support and overall psychological well-being was significantly increased in the experimental group compared to the control group. Through this study, group art therapy based on positive psychology was confirmed to enhance coping strategies, social support and psychological well-being in mothers with disabled children.
